Pensioner in critical condition following Co Antrim house fire

An elderly woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a house fire in Co Antrim today.

The emergency services were called to the incident at a property on Ballyrickard Road, Larne, at around 1pm following reports of a house fire.

Police closed a section of the road and motorists were advised to avoid the area while firefighters dealt with the blaze for over an hour and a half. It came to a conclusion shortly after 2.30pm.

Three fire appliances and two fire officers were sent to the scene and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Following the incident, a woman in her 80s was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The Ballyrickard Road in Larne has re-opened following a house fire in the area. The fire, which is not being treated as suspicious at this time, was reported to police at around 1pm on Saturday 27th February.

"A woman, aged in her 80’s, has been taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. There are no further details at present."
