Pensioner, 71, assaulted by two attackers on New Year's Day and left with injuries to face

A 71-year-old man was given "significant facial injuries" in an attack carried out by two men on New Year's Day.

Officers who are investigating the assault are now appealing for any witnesses.

The attack took place on Pelaw Avenue near to the bus stop at Ryton Crescent, Stanley in County Durham at around 10am on Friday, January 1.

Police officers are looking for two suspects, described as male, white and aged between 16-20. One was wearing a grey jacket and one was wearing a black jacket.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call 101 and ask for PC 2487 Kelly of Stanley Police quoting reference CRI00311338.

The force is particularly keen for drivers who may have been in the area at the time who have a dash cam, to review footage to see if the attack is either captured, or the suspects are walking by.
