Security at Government House has come under fire after a man sneaked past security checkpoints and allegedly spied on a woman in a toilet in the compound.
At noon yesterday, chaos erupted at Command Building 1 at Government House when a female official yelled out from a toilet in the building that a man was peering down on her.
Officials and security guards rushed to the toilet but did not catch the man who had run away from the building.
The official said while she was about to use a third cubicle out of four in the toilet, she looked up and saw a man leaning over the wall from the fourth cubicle so she yelled for help and opened the door.
"I've never been here before," the man allegedly said before fleeing. It was unclear whether the remark was an apology.
Police later searched the area and checked a security camera at the hall in front of the toilet but the camera failed to capture images of the man.
The toilet sign was unusually small so the man may have entered by accident, said Pol Col Kieat Kabbuam, superintendent of Special Branch Police's Division 3 which oversees Government House.
The building is close to the government-sponsored Klong Padung Krung Kasem market so the man might have come from the market, he said.
On Wednesday, Sub Lt Somchai Artphuen, a retired soldier, suddenly emerged to meet Gen Prayut face to face after the prime minister, surrounded by several security authorities, finished his weekly exercises.
Sub Lt Somchai, who was dressed in an exercise outfit, caught Gen Prayut and those around him off-guard.
The retired officer said he wanted to join the exercise session.
He also said he was seeking help for a relative who had won an auction to supply clothing for a government agency but the agency refused to take delivery.
