Pedro Strop 'pretty darn close' to returning from a hamstring injury

CHICAGO _ Pedro Strop threw off a mound for the second time Thursday, but hasn't fully recovered from a left hamstring injury.

"He's not 100 percent comfortable on the landing yet, but pretty darn close," manager Joe Maddon said Friday. "He's further along than we anticipated."

Maddon wasn't sure if Strop would pitch before the end of the regular season, which is Sunday, but he appears to be healing quicker than expected since injuring his leg while running to first base on Sept. 13.

"It's going very well," said Maddon, adding that Strop has kept his right arm strong. "We got to see what happens."

Before the game, the Cubs activated catcher Bobby Wilson from the 10-day disabled list. Wilson was acquired from the Twins on Aug. 30 but has yet to play due to an ankle sprain.
