Pedro Pascal’s vulnerable cover shoot has the internet falling even more in love with him

Being a fan of Pedro Pascal is like sharing your favorite toy with the entire world. I suppose it is nice that the man once said that he loves me in a public forum but still, who doesn’t love Pedro Pascal in return?

A new profile for the thriving actor has shown to the rest of society what us fans have always known: Part of his allure comes from his vulnerability and willingness to share his darker moments with the world. Throughout the Vanity Fair piece, Pascal was hilarious, charming, and yet open about the pain he feels over his birthday and the loss of his mother. He was honest about his struggle to make it in the industry, and shared his love for Hollywood and theatre by talking about some of his favorite things.

All this profile did was probably make people love Pedro Pascal even more than they already did. Or show those who are late to the game that he is beloved for a reason. At one point during the interview, Pascal talked about being unable to return to Orange County, where he went to middle school, because he was bullied “for being a weird, sensitive kid. For being an attention-hungry kid. For being in love with the movies and theater and art.”

But throughout the piece, Pascal talks in such a way that you can’t help but understand the deep love we all have for him. He talked about how he struggled as a young man going to college and how it is what gave him insight into the darkness of the world around us.

“I was having a really hard time when I was 18, 19, 20,” Pascal said. “I was struggling really badly with insomnia. I was reading James Baldwin and watching movies like Once Were Warriors and Muriel’s Wedding. I just was like an open wound to the reality of life,” he said. “It sounds so f***ing pretentious, but I felt at this crossroads of coming into an understanding of what an unjust world we live in. This world, and its lack of equanimity, is just too painful to bear. How do you live in it?”

Pedro Pascal’s heart is why he’s a fan favorite

The vulnerability in the Vanity Fair piece isn’t new. So many of us have turned to Pascal’s interviews to praise him for being honest with those he is talking to. But there is something incredibly special about moments like this, where new people will finally understand all the love and attention fans have for him.

I don’t think it takes an actor telling the world their darkest thoughts to connect with people. But it is why Pascal has become such a fan favorite. And his success, as Robert Downey Jr. put it in the piece, gives us hope that we still will praise actors who stand up for their beliefs and allow their fanbases to understand who they are as people. “Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry.”

So if you weren’t on the Pascal train yet, allow this profile to show you why so many of us have loved him so completely throughout the last few years. He’s my guy for a good reason and I am just so excited to see him tackle Reed Richards next.
