Pedestrian taken to hospital after 'serious' incident in Caerphilly

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital following a collision with a car in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly at 1.40am.

Gwent Police confirmed they responded to a "serious incident".

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said the incident involved a car and a pedestrian.

The casualty was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Police closed the road in both directions from Asda petrol station to Toby Carvery.

The road re-opened at 8.10am, but a small section of pavement remained closed.

A force spokesman said: "Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

One local resident said he was woken by flashing lights at around 1.30am.

He described seeing an ambulance and two police vehicles outside his home.
