Pedestrian in hospital with 'trauma injuries' after crash shuts main road for hours

A man has been taken to hospital with multiple injuries following a crash in Heywood.

A58 Bridge Street has been closed in both directions, between George Street and Garden Street, following the collision between a car and a pedestrian at around 7.30am today (August 23).

North West Ambulance Service confirmed that a pedestrian has suffered trauma injuries to his chest, pelvis and 'lower limb'.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We received a call today at 7.30am to reports of an RTC on Pitt Street, Heywood.

"We sent an RRV, an ambulance and an advanced paramedic to scene and treated a male patient.

"We took the patient to Salford Royal with trauma injuries to chest, pelvis and lower limb."

Photographs taken from the scene show damage to the windscreen of a silver Vauxhall car and traffic monitoring site Inrix confirmed that collision investigation work is currently being carried out.

There are also delays and diversions to Diamond North West's 163 and 471 bus services.

Manchester Evening News has approached Greater Manchester Police for comment.
