Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Coroner Investigator's Car Headed to a Homicide: Police

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a coroner investigator's vehicle on the way to a homicide scene while crossing the street in Colorado.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a coroner investigator en route to a homicide scene in Aurora, Colorado, according to authorities.

The fatal incident occurred late Wednesday night as an Adams County Coroner's Office investigator was responding to a separate homicide investigation underway, 9 News reported. First responders were already active in the area due to the unfolding case when the crash was reported.

The pedestrian was attempting to cross Colfax Avenue outside of a crosswalk when they were hit by the investigator's vehicle. Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner is expected to issue that information. Police confirmed that speed does not appear to have played a role in the collision.

The coroner investigator remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
