Pedestrian dies after being hit by car while walking on M8 in Glasgow

A pedestrian who walked along the M8 in Glasgow has died after being struck by a car.

The 41-year-old man was spotted on the eastbound carriageway near to the slip from the M77 when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at around 7.25pm on Wednesday night.

Emergency crews raced to the scene but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 36-year-old driver involved in the crash was uninjured.

Rangers and Hamilton fans watching their club’s league fixture at Ibrox were urged to avoid the M8 after the road was closed to motorists for several hours.

Police Scotland officers are now appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Jon Mochan from Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact us, or anyone who seen a man walking on the motorway, as they may have information that will assist our investigation.

“I am also keen to hear from any drivers who were on the road at the time who have dash-cam footage. This footage will also assist our ongoing enquiries into this crash.

“Anyone with information should contact Glasgow Road Policing Unit through 101 quoting reference number 3415 of March 4.”
