Peaky Blinders viewers think they saw Declan Donnelly playing Winston Churchill

Peaky Blinders viewers were shocked to see who they thought was Declan Donnelly playing a cameo in the latest series finale.

Some fans were convinced that a Saturday Night Takeaway-style undercover Dec played Winston Churchill on Sunday's show.

The former Prime Minister appeared in the fifth season's final episode, where he spoke to Tommy Shelby in his office, to discuss Fascist leader Oswald Mosley.

To many, the actor looked suspiciously like Dec does when he has worn prosthetics to dress up as a senior citizen on Saturday Night Takeaway, a practical joke which has tricked the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Jeremy Kyle, James Corden and Lorraine Kelly.

"Why does Churchill look like when Ant and Dec go undercover though?" one baffled fan posted on Twitter.

"Convinced this is @antanddec (obv Dec) in disguise #PeakyBlinder," said another.

Another shared an image of the TV presenter dressed up as an older man, saying: "Winston Churchill in Peaky Blinders is image of Dec dressed up."

"Was that Winston Churchill or was it just dec undercover again?" asked another fan.

Churchill was actually played by Humans and Football Factory Neil Maskell. He is the third man to play Churchill in Peaky Blinders, after Andy Nyman and Richard McCabe.

Peaky Blinders Series five concluded on Sunday night, but viewers can catch up on BBC iPlayer.
