PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: With completion of the Chikhli water treatment plant (WTP) by March-end, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is hopeful of resuming daily water supply across its civic limits from the month of April onwards.
Praveen Ladkat, joint city engineer, PCMC, said that once the WTP becomes operational, 100 million litres of water per day (MLD) will be lifted from Andra dam. In the next three years, PCMC areas will get water from Bhama Askhed dam, Andra dam, and partially from Pavana dam, which could pave the way for 24x7 water supply across civic areas, catering to a rising population.
Ladkat added, "Reducing non-revenue water (NRW) percentage is the key. Waste of water or water loss falls under NRW, aka the civic body does not get paid for it. At present, 35% water is NRW, which needs to be 20%."
The PCMC water supply department officials have blamed the uneven force issue across the areas. So, they are providing alternate water supply, wherein half the areas get water every other day, which gives better water force across households, as per claimed by the civic authorities.
