PC Andrew Harper's killer, 20, caught downing homemade booze inside high-security prison

One of the killers of a newlywed cop has allegedly been caught drinking homemade alcohol in prison.

Henry Long, 20, was jailed for 16 years in 2020 for the manslaughter of PC Andrew Harper in 2019.

He was jailed alongside his pals Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole, 18 at the time.

Long is said to have admitted to boozing on the homemade hooch at HMP Woodhill, near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.

He was later transferred to another Category A prison - Long Lartin - which is near Evesham, Worcestershire.

However, this was said to have been a standard prison move and not related to the alleged drinking.

A source told The Sun : “You’d expect the killer of a policeman to live a spartan existence in jail.

“Instead he’s drinking alcohol like he was on a night down the pub. It’s an outrage.”

Bowers and Cole were given 13 years each in prison.

Long, the leader of the group, admitted manslaughter, while passengers Cole and Bowers were convicted of manslaughter after a trial at the Old Bailey.

All three were cleared of murder by the jury.

PC Harper, 28, died from his injuries when he was caught in a strap attached to the back of a car and dragged down a winding country road as the trio fled the scene of a quad bike theft in Sulhamstead, Berkshire, on the night of August 15, 2019.

Last month, Harper's Law came into force which will make life sentences mandatory for anyone who commits the manslaughter of an emergency worker on duty, including police, prison officers, firefighters and paramedics.

Grieving newlywed Lissie Harper, 31, was "outraged" by the prison sentences handed to the three teenagers responsible for killing her husband.

Speaking last month, Mrs Harper said: "Almost three years ago my husband was robbed of his life and we were both robbed of our future together.

"Nothing will ever change that. This law will not change the outcome for his killers.

"But no longer will a family have to endure the pain of injustice in court as I did those many months ago - and that is a significantly powerful outcome."

The Ministry of Justice declined to comment.
