Paula Tiffin death: Killer driver Bradley Webb tried to apologise to victim's daughter from prison cell

Killer driver Bradley Webb tried to apologise to his victim's heartbroken daughter in a call from prison.

Paula Tiffin died after suffering horrific injuries when the car she was in smashed into a wall while being pursued by police.

Webb was today jailed for more than six years after admitting causing the mum's death by dangerous driving.

Now Paula's daughter Amie, who is in a relationship with Webb's brother Jimmy, has revealed how the driver tried to apologise to her while being held on remand in prison.

And the 30-year-old has told the Chronicle of her family's anger at the length of the sentence passed at court today.

Amie said: "All my family is just disgusted. We just feel like there's no justice."

And reliving the moment Webb called his brother, who is Amie's partner, she added: "He's spoken to Jimmy. He said he was sorry and he wished he could bring my mam back and I just froze. He said: 'Dan you tell Amie I'm sorry'. But I'm not ready for that.

"I don't know how I feel. I just feel numb, I was very close to Bradley, and he was close to my mam, they were like best friends."

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Paula and another friend, Diane Coffell, were passengers in Webb's car when it crashed into a wall in Houghton-le-Spring during the early hours of August 23.

Both women suffered horrific injuries and Paula, who had been in the front, died two days later.

The court was told how the crash came after Webb, who was driving an un-roadworthy car with no insurance and no driving licence, drove at speed to get away from police who tried to pull him over.

The 25-year-old, who had amphetamines in his system, crashed when he lost control after hitting a road crossing.

Amie, who lives in Hetton, was in court to see Webb sentenced.

And she has described the pain she felt while watching footage of the final moments of her mum's life.

"I cried all the way through the hearing, but my body froze seeing the video of the crash," she said. "The whole chase only lasted nine minutes but when I was sitting there it felt like a lifetime.

"I was watching the last little bits of my mam's life. My heart felt like it was ripped in two. I can't put it into words what that felt like."

Paula had lived a life haunted by tragedy following the death of her son Adam, in 2006.

The seven-year-old died after plunging 26ft to the ground from scaffolding near his Washington home, in 2006. His death came just weeks after Paula’s baby daughter Angel was stillborn.

Adam had been playing with his big brother Dylon when he scaled the scaffolding, near his home in Roche Court.

Dylon ran home to tell his mum that Adam had fallen and Paula raced to where her boy was. But there was nothing she could do to save her son, and Adam died in her arms.

Paula admitted to The Chronicle in 2009 that she had blamed herself for allowing Adam to go out that day.

However, the construction firm that erected the scaffolding for a one-off repair, but left it there for 11 days, admitted responsibility for blunders that led to the tragedy.

Lovell Partnerships Limited was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive and fined £75,000 for a breach of safety regulations, after bosses admitted its role in Adam’s death

Webb, of Queen Street, Hetton-le-Hole, also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop, and driving and without a licence.

As well as the jail sentence he was banned from driving for eight years and four months.

Amie added: "I can't ever forgive him for not stopping. I'm never going to see my beautiful mama again. At the end of the day he's left nine children without a mother, and will have to suffer that for the rest of his life."
