Paul Pogba admits he's aged 10 years in months as impact of injury nightmare laid bare

Paul Pogba has opened up about his injury struggles since returning to Juventus, branding it the "biggest test of my life".

Pogba starred for Juventus for four seasons between 2012 and 2016, helping the Italian giants win four consecutive Serie A titles. He then returned to Manchester United for a then world record fee of £89.3m, having come through the club's academy before joining Juventus.

However, his time at Old Trafford did not go to plan and he decided to go back to Juventus last summer when his deal with United expired. Unfortunately, Pogba's second stint in Italy has been blighted by injury so far, with the 30-year-old injuring his knee in pre-season.

That required surgery which kept him out of action until after the World Cup, with Pogba not making his second debut until late February. The midfielder also suffered muscle injuries in March and May and ended the season having only played a combined 161 minutes in all competitions.

"It was the biggest test of my life," Pogba admitted in a candid interview with French outlet Views. "It's made me grow a lot. These last few months have made me grow enormously, they have made me understand many things about life.

"I've aged ten years [laughs]. I've aged ten years in the space of seven months! And as I've said, that can only be good for me, because I'm looking at things positively.

"I'm a believer so I see these things as stages and tests. They're tests that have helped me grow, where I've matured and learnt a lot of things about life. I've learnt what the important things are.

"So I've been taking it positively and that's been a boost for me. Honestly, now, it's all behind me. It's really shaped me." Pogba also opened up about his Old Trafford exit, admitting that part of the reason why he left was because he did not get the same "love from the fans" that he got at Juventus.

"I went back to Manchester because I hadn't finished my work there," he explained. "I said to myself 'I really want to play with the A's [the first team]'. I did it and it was a goal achieved for me.

"We have already won, not the Premier League, but titles that Manchester have not won for a long time. And I came back to Juve, why? Because it's really the club that helped me push myself.

"And really the love from the fans, the love from the club that I get, I didn't get that in Manchester. I was quite surprised when I came back to England, already with the transfer I was given a label. It was quite sad.

"But it's two clubs that I really love, that made me grow and I can only say thank you to these two clubs. Maybe I could have gone to other clubs, but it was my heart that chose those clubs and I often follow my heart."
