Paul O'Grady fans 'so sorry' as he shares heartbreaking loss while on tour in musical

Paul O'Grady fans have rushed to show him support after he confirmed he had suffered a sad loss while on tour. The TV and radio star is currently travelling up and down the country as he plays Miss Hannigan in the touring stage version of Annie.

Taking to Instagram earlier this week, animal-loved Paul shared how one of his pigs, Tom Tom, had been put to sleep while he had been away for the week in Newcastle as part of his role in the musical. The 67-year-old shared a video of his beloved animal in his sty alongside some of his other pigs.

Paul wrote alongside the sweet video: "Got back from a week in Newcastle playing Miss Hannigan in Annie to find that Tom Tom, one of my pigs had been put to sleep. I knew it was coming as he’d been diagnosed with a tumour but even so it’s awful when you lose a pet."

The star continued: "He was the cheekiest of the gang and one of the other pigs who was obviously very fond of him is now depressed and gone into mourning and there’s those who say that animals don’t have feelings."

Paul then rounded off his post by adding: "On a lighter note I’m thoroughly enjoying playing Hannigan again after so long, especially with a truly amazing and lovely cast. Next stop Edinburgh." And after seeing his post, Paul’s followers rallied around as they offered their support in the comments.

Presenter Gaby Roslin wrote: "Oh no. Paul I’m so so sorry. Sending you massive hugs and so much love my darling." @trio_of_whippets said: "Aw I’m sorry to hear of your loss our animals are so important in our life." @fionawhight replied: "So very sorry for the loss of your gorgeous pig Tom Tom. I bet he had a wonderful life with you and he’ll never forget you."

@dawnevans1560 commented: "Sorry to hear your sad news xx glad your enjoying being back in the Annie show again." @lusciouslindy1861 posted: "So sorry to hear about Tom Tom. On the brighter side though it's lovely to see you back on here. Missed you."

@mollybrown1940 shared: "I'm so sorry for your loss. Animals are so so special and take pieces of our heart..." @carolandron0009 added: "Awe Paul, I'm really sorry to hear this. I've been missing your post . All our pets are sacred to us , I feel your pain. Sending much love to you and lots of hugs."

Back in October last year, Paul announced that he would be starring in the musical Annie. At the time, he wrote on Instagram: “This is what happens when you go for a drink after rehearsals with your producer and after being plied with whisky you’d agree to play a nun in the Sound of Music let alone Miss Hannigan.

"The last time I was in this show was 1998 playing Hannigan again and then on tour, job sharing with Lesley Joseph. Annie is hitting the road again next year for a National Tour but I’m only doing 6 dates as I’ve got other commitments but I’ve got to say I’m really looking forward to it as it’s such a great show."
