Paul Merson makes exciting Tammy Abraham prediction for Frank Lampard and Chelsea

Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that Tammy Abraham's two-goal haul for Chelsea against Norwich City on Saturday will ignite the young striker into his best form.

The 21-year-old was under pressure heading into the match, following a slow start to the season for the Blues, but hit back at his doubters with a class performance.

According to Merson, that will hand Abraham, who fired 26 goals in the Championship for Aston Villa, a significant confidence boost that could see the England international achieve a similar vein of form in the Premier League.

"Tammy Abraham's two goals at Norwich were massive for both Chelsea and the young lad," he wrote in his weekly Sky Sports column .

"You've got to give Frank Lampard credit for handing him a start at Carrow Road, he knows from experience that newly-promoted teams give chances away and gave Abraham the chance to punish them.

"In the current climate, if Abraham played and didn't score that could have been that, with people starting to question whether he would ever score goals. But it proved to be a masterstroke.

"Yes, he will come up against better defenders this season but his double will have filled him with confidence and before you know it, he'll be scoring week in, week out."
