Paul Hanlon named new Hibs captain as Easter Road hero replaces David Gray

Hibs have announced Paul Hanlon as their new skipper after David Gray retired.

Gray had been captain at Hibs since 2015 and famously guided them to Scottish Cup glory in 2016.

He retired in the summer to take on a role in Jack Ross' coaching staff and now Hanlon has been picked as his replacement to wear the armband moving forward.

Hanlon has spent his entire career at Hibs - apart from a one month loan spell at St Johnstone in 2008 - and has racked up more than 450 appearances for the club

His form in recent seasons led to a Scotland call-up and he made his debut in 2020, and has also been given a testimonial by Hibs back in 2018.

The 31-year-old has worn the armband in the past and will be helped out by Paul McGinn, with the right back being named vice-captain.

It comes after Ross signed a new two-year deal to stay as manager of the club until at least the summer of 2024.

Speaking about his decision to stay, Ross said: "I spoke last season about how happy I am here and how much I still want to achieve here. I’m delighted to commit to the club and also to have that show of commitment from the Board.

"Hopefully the stability in the management and coaching staff feeds through to the players that this club is a place to achieve things."
