Paul Hanlon hails Hibs show as he reveals delight at fan return to Easter Road

New Hibs skipper Paul Hanlon admits he was thrilled to be back in front of fans as they beat Santa Coloma 3-0 on Thursday night.

It was the club's first appearance in the new Europa Conference League and it was a fiery one with the match seeing three red cards across the 90 minutes.

Joe Newell's was harsh for a first half tackle and the visitors then had two red cards in the second half as a Martin Boyle double and one from Kevin Nisbet put Hibs in control.

The Easter Road side now travel to Andorra for the second leg next week and Hanlon is backing them to get the win again, but reckons Santa Coloma can threaten.

He said: “I think we’ve seen from this game that there are threats when we go over there that we need to be aware of and we’re not a lot more aware of.

“We are in a much better position to be prepared for them and, as I said we’ve got a lot of quality in the squad, so we will be looking at going over there and winning the game again.

“Going down to 10 men made it more difficult than what we wanted, but credit to Santa Coloma they came here and kept the ball for long periods without really hurting us to be honest.

“They seemed to be a team that was possession-based and that suited us at times with the pace and quality that we’ve got going forwards. When we did rob the ball, we created chances and got the three goals in the end.

“We’ve all missed the fans and the noise at the start of the game made it feel like it was full to be honest.

“Great to have them back, great to have a win and we’ll look forward to the numbers building and building as the season goes on hopefully.”
