Paul George on Westbrook: ‘He’s the best competitor I’ve played with’

Paul George has played nine seasons in the NBA and has had quite a few teammates over the years but none of them stack up quite like Russell Westbrook.

At least, according to George.

Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double in 10 straight games Monday night as he scored 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a 120-111 win.

As Westbrook had his 10th straight triple-double Monday night, George added one, too. He recorded 47 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to become the first two teammates in Thunder history to have a triple-double in the same game.

Afterward, George reflected on a historic night with his teammate.

“He’s the best competitor I’ve seen,’ George said of Westbrook. “He’s the best competitor I’ve played with. He’s a one of a kind player. [There] is no other person that has led in triple-doubles year after year and he’s going on number three. Man, what a player; what a teammate.”

As George and Westbrook became the first two teammates in team history with a triple-double in the same game, the duo became just the ninth in NBA history to accomplish the feat — the last pair was LeBron James and Lonzo Ball.

It was fitting that the two players accomplished the feat at Chesapeake Energy Arena in what became a crucial win against a division rival. The group has one more game on Thursday before All-Star Weekend and has a chance to head into the break on a high note.

The Thunder are now 37-19 on the season.
