Rangers legend Gazza tipped Celtic-mad paperboy £120 for giving him stick about Old Firm

Rangers legend Gazza tipped a Celtic-mad paperboy £120 after organising a whipround from his teammates - after the 'little boy gave him stick' for playing for Old Firm rivals.

Paul Gascoigne, 53, was drinking with fellow Gers players including former midfielder Stuart McCall, 56, sometime between 1995 and 1998 when he played for the Light Blues.

A little boy walked into the pub and sold copies of the Glasgow Evening Times, which cost 20p.

The gobby paperboy 'gave Gazza stick' for playing for Gers - but later on it emerged the child supported Celtic, McCall told podcast One Last Match.

Gazza asked for a tenner off his 11 teammates and gave the boy a handful of notes.

McCall, who currently manages Bradford City, said: "We had a lad come in, we were in the pub, a young boy came in selling newspapers.

"I think it was 20p - the Glasgow Times.

"Gazza got a tenner from each player, I think there were about 12 of us,  £120.

"Gave  £120 for the paper to the boy.

"Unfortunately later on in the afternoon we found out he was a Celtic supporter.

"Little boy had come in and gave Gazza some stick."

Considered to be one of the star players of his generation, the Geordie forward - who has struggled with alcoholism and mental health - was also capped by England 57 times and scored ten goals in his international career.

And his friend described him as incredibly generous and 'good and conscientious'.

McCall said: "But generosity - he'd give you anything he had got.

"With a genius like he was, on the football park, you do get things away from that.

"Obviously he had his demons and unfortunately still does.

"But as a guy, when his head was on, really good  a really good, conscientious guy when his head was on."
