Paul Burrell reveals what he thinks Diana would have said about Megxit

Princess Diana’s former royal butler Paul Burrell has broken his silence on Megxit to reveal what he thinks Diana would say.

Burrell, 61, claims Prince Harry wants to ‘follow in his mother’s footsteps’ after Meghan Markle was ‘stifled’ by the royal family. Watch the video above to see his thoughts on the decision.

Harry and Meghan announced plans to leave the royal family and work to become ‘financially independent’, while splitting their time between the UK and North America.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, he said: “I feel very sorry for the Queen of course, 93 years old. Our monarch has suffered greatly over the years.”

Speaking of Harry and William’s relationship, Burrell added: “I do feel sorry for William and Harry not having that bond that they once had, obviously when their mother died they were cemented together and inseparable.

“And their mother would be sad too. I’m hoping William can build a strong bridge towards his brother and bring him back into the fold as his brother.”

The former butler then revealed what Diana would have said about Megxit, saying: “Think of Diana, think of what she would have wanted and what she would have said.

“My thoughts have been with her this week, I’ve been thinking about her.

“She would have given the boys advice, she would have said ‘marry for love’, which they have, ‘be respectful and kind to your wife’, which they both have, but ‘be happy’, because Diana wasn’t.

“Clearly, Harry and Meghan are not happy in the environment that they’re in, being stifled by the royal household, because you don't just marry the member that you’re marrying, you marry the entire household as well.

“Diana found that impossible.

“I think Harry wants to follow in his mother’s footsteps and this talk about Disney and doing voice overs - I think that’s going to be a humanitarian project.”
