Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce aim cheeky Joe Burrow dig after securing Super Bowl slot

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce charismatically fired a sly dig at Joe Burrow after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to reach Super Bowl LVII.

In a pulsating AFC Championship Game, Mahomes overcame adversity in his ankle injury to lead the Chiefs past the Bengals with a 23-20 win at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes entered the game without a win in three meetings with Bengals star Burrow, but the MVP favourite ensured he finally got one over his rival as Harrison Butker sunk the clinching field goal to win with three seconds remaining.

Mahomes threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Chiefs to the Super Bowl as he eyes a second ring of his already remarkable career. The 27-year-old has led Kansas City to five successive home AFC Championship Games and has now converted three of them into trips to the Super Bowl.

As Burrow entered the clash against the Chiefs with a perfect 3-0 record against Mahomes, Bengals players were heard labelling the Chiefs stadium 'Burrowhead' as they defeated the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Chiefs players were undoubtedly irked by the label and Kelce wasted no time in hitting out his team's naysayers after Kansas City clinched a place in the Super Bowl once again.

“Woo!” the star tight end yelled as he crashed Mahomes’ post-match interview. “Burrowhead my a**! It’s Mahomes’ house!”

Kelce wasn’t done there, either. He fired a direct shot at Cincinnati Mayor After Pureval after he released a video earlier this week calling on Burrow to take a paternity test to figure out whether or not he is Mahomes’ father.

“I’ve got some wise words for that Cincinnati mayor: Know your role and shut yo mouth, you Jabroni,” Kelce said to the cheers of the Kansas City faithful. “You got to fight…for your right…to party!”

Mayor Pureval even tweeted an apology to the city of Cincinnati for his joke afterwards and his stunt is looking increasingly regrettable with every passing moment. Mahomes was visibly thrilled after leading the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl with his herculean performance following his high ankle sprain.

“I want to thank God, man,” Mahomes said after the win. “He healed my body this week. Battled through that. He gave me the strength. We showed this place it's Arrowhead, it's not Burrowhead out here.”

The Eagles will face the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on February 12.
