Patrice Evra leaves Thierry Henry and Roberto Martinez in stitches with grass incident

Patrice Evra left fellow pundits Thierry Henry and Roberto Martinez speechless as he bent down to eat the grass at Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United's clash with Tottenham.

The former left-back returned to the famous stadium as part of the punditry team for Amazon Prime's coverage of the Premier League game. Evra spent eight years with the Red Devils, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

He officially announced his retirement three years ago, following spells at Juventus, Marseille and West Ham. Since then, he has transitioned into the world of punditry, becoming a fan favourite with his light-hearted approach to the job.

But many viewers were left bewildered on Wednesday night when Evra bent down to taste the pitch. He had been asked by Gabby Logan for his thoughts on what it was like to return to Old Trafford when he made the bizarre move.

"It is a really special place. It is home. I call it home. It’s a bit windy, but don't worry guys I'll ask someone to turn off the AC. And of course when when I come here, I always test the grass (proceeds to eat the grass). And yes, it is a little bit garlicy, but it tastes the same. This is my home and Bon Appetit," he said.

His fellow pundits Henry and Martinez were left speechless by Evra's actions, with both men and Logan left laughing. Henry even collapsed over Amazon's pitchside desk as he struggled to contain his laughter.

Both Henry and Martinez joined Evra in branding Old Trafford a special stadium. The former Arsenal star joked that his good memories of the ground stemmed from winning the Premier League title there with the Gunners.

"It’s an amazing stadium. Amazing place. Whenever I come here, I always think of Eric Cantona. When I was watching it from the other side, it was always about Cantona. No disrespect to any other thing, but being home, he was the one everyone wanted to watch. I have good memories here, we won the league here!" Henry told Amazon Prime.

The trio of pundits were in place at Old Trafford to analyse United's clash with Tottenham. The Red Devils have had a mixed started under Ten Hag, but Evra is confident his former club are heading in the right direction.

"I am happy. It has been up and down after a really bad start. But what I like about Ten Hag is that he takes responsibility because the first two games, he started Maguire, Shaw and Ronaldo, two defeats, and he benched them," he added.

"After he got four victories in a row, they had that fighting spirit and they did not want to lose. If we challenge like we did against Arsenal and Liverpool, so I was in shock when we were 4-0 down against Manchester City at half time. I think we are going in the right direction and I am happy with Ten Hag because he does not look like he wants to fail."
