Patna: Women, too, congregate for 'Taraweeh'

PATNA: Come Ramzan and people spend most of the time on prayers and doing charity. With nearly two weeks of Ramzan over now, many have completed their Taraweeh prayer and some are continuing with it. Interestingly, many woman devotees are also gathering nowadays to offer Taraweeh in the city.

Taraweeh is the special prayer performed in the month of Ramzan in congregation after Esha prayer (evening). Apart from mosques, many people also arrange for congregation at their homes or in community halls. At least three mosques in the city are especially catering to the Taraweeh prayer service for women. They are at Abdul Hai Commercial Complex on Exhibition Road, Bank Road and Masjid Alay Fatima Hai on the campus of Paras hospital.

Shaheen Parween of Samanpura said she has been going to the mosque every day this year to perform Taraweeh. Earlier, she used to offer Taraweeh in an apartment with a few other women. Nuzhat Parween, 18, also goes to the same mosque for Taraweeh. "This is for the first time that I am offering Taraweeh prayer during Ramzan," she told TOI.

Another Bakarganj resident, Musharaffa Parween, organises Taraweeh prayer at her home. Nearly 15 women from the locality gather at her terrace and offer the prayer together. "Since the mosques offering such service for women are far away, I have arranged it at my home. Prayers in congregation is always good and I feel satisfied in serving others in whatever form it may be."

Musharaffa said after breaking her fast, she offers namaz and then make arrangements for Taraweeh. "My daughter and I together spread the mat and put on the stand fans on the terrace so that people coming here do not face difficulty," she added.

Maulana Mohammad Alam Quasmi, the convener of Tanzeem Tahreek Aiemma, said the Taraweeh will get over at his mosque on Saturday, following which a special prayer will be held. "Be it elderly or children, all are happy for the completion of Taraweeh," said Maulana Quasmi.
