PATNA: A 35-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her father-in-law following an argument over household issues at Sahbeghpur under Mokama police station area in Patna late Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Anjali Devi alias Tetari Devi, the wife of Ganesh Paswan. Ganesh works as a labourer in Delhi.
According to the police, the accused Phaguni Paswan (60) has been absconding after the incident. His cellphone was also switched off. Mokama police station SHO Sanjeet Kumar said the locals informed the police about the incident around 10.30pm. The body was sent to Barh sub-divisional hospital for postmortem. “Anjali’s parents have been informed about the death and her sister’s statement has been recorded,” he said.
The incident took place around 9.45pm after heated argument over cooking meal. Phaguni hit his daughter-in-law with an iron rod, the SHO said. “There were deep wounds on the head of the deceased. It seems the accused hit her 3-4 times with the rod. The police found the body lying in a pool of blood. We have recovered the bloodstained gamcha (scarf) and slippers of Phaguni from the spot,” Sanjeet said.
He said no one was at home, except Anjali and his father-in-law, at the time of the incident. “Anjali’s sister, who is also her sister-in-law (gotni), had gone to attend a marriage ceremony while her 10-year-old son lives in a hostel. The locals informed the police that they heard heated exchange of words between Phaguni and Anjali and saw the former leaving the house with a rod in his hand.
The locals could not understand anything, but when they went inside the house, they saw the dead body of Anjali,” Sanjeet said.
The police team has started scrutinizing the CCTV footage in the nearby areas. The accused was absconding.
