Fans of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan had a lot to celebrate as 'Pathaan' officially hit the big screen today, January 25. While many flocked to theatres to witness the return of King Khan, others could not hold back their screams and cheers as Deepika Padukone stepped on-screen in her controversial saffron bikini.
A viral video doing the rounds online, sees a theatre full of fans erupting in hoots, screams and even whistling as Besharam Rang played out on the big screen. While reports revealed that 'Pathaan' faced the CBFC chopping block and had to have a few scenes and words cut, the fate of Deepika's scenes in her saffron bikini was largely unknown.
Going by audience reactions on Twitter, many were relieved that the song was not edited out of the film as it "serves a purpose leading to a crucial moment" in the film.
A fan tweeted, "For all the controversy around Besharam Rang, the song is important to the movie. It serves a purpose leading to a crucial moment. Whatever is happening in it has a reason. And yes, they are HOT. Love the expressions which make sense in context."
Another shared, "If you want to know how much Deepika's saffron bikini offended people, you should watch Besharam Rang in a packed audi. The deafening cheer at the precise moment will give you your answer."
"All the screams and whistles for the electrifying #BesharamRang in #Delhi are making us jealous," read another tweet.
However, it seems that the song was edited in some states. A Twitter user claimed that the song was cut from a screening in Rudrapur city, Uttarakhand. The tweet read, "I'm watching #Pathaan in Rudrapur city with my friend The movie was interrupted for a min and then skipped the besharam rang song, and some crucial part. Refund the ticket or give me another ticket for the same. This is not at all acceptable."
'Pathaan' is Shah Rukh Khan's first release in over 4 years. The film is a part of Aditya Chopra's ambitious spy universe and also sees Salman Khan as Tiger crossing over in an epic cameo.
The movie also stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.
