Bristol Bears have signed former Gloucester back Henry Purdy on a two year deal.
Purdy joined the Bears as emergency injury cover in January from Coventry after being released by the Cherry and Whites at the end of last season.
Injuries to Siale Piutau (knee), Piers O’Conor (knee), Charles Piutau (knee), Will Hurrell (head), Luke Daniels (shoulder)and Charlie Powell (ankle) meant that Bristol were desperate for cover, and Purdy has impressed in his short stint.
In two games for the Bears, Purdy has scored two tries and particularly impressed in the comeback win over Northampton Saints. In his 40 minutes on the field, Purdy made 51 metres, four tackles and scored Bristol's first try, collecting Joe Joyce's pass to race in from 30 metres.
Purdy can play at wing, centre or full back and will be an important asset for the rest of the season.
Director of Rugby Pat Lam explained the decision to sign him on a long term deal.
He said: “Henry has made a big impression in a short period of time since arriving at Bristol Bears.

“He came to the club with a desire to establish himself back in the top-flight and we’ve already seen what he is capable of.
“Our vision is about building a world class squad with quality depth in every position. Henry is an intelligent rugby player who is a real threat across a number of positions.”
Purdy said: “I’ve really enjoyed my short time at the club, and I’m very grateful for the welcome everyone at Bristol has given me.
“It feels like an awesome culture Pat has built here with an outstanding group of players and staff.
“It’s an exciting time to be a Bear, and I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.’’
The 25-year-old played 82 times for Gloucester during a five-year stint at Kingsholm and scored against his former side on his debut for Bristol.
After being released from Gloucester at the end of last season, Purdy joined Championship side Coventry before his temporary move to Bristol, and he is now back in Premiership action.
