Passengers ‘rescued’ from train trapped on rail line near Bishopton

Passengers on board a train near Bishopton have been ‘rescued’ from a train trapped due to overhead wire damage.

Trains between Glasgow Central and Gourock and Wemyss Bay are affected, with ScotRail pointing to a tree branch being caught on overhead wires as the cause, as well as overhead lines down between Langbank and Bishopton.

A rescue train has been sent to the site to take transfer passengers over from a trapped train - they will now be taken to Bishopton where a replacement bus is waiting.

Disruption on all trains towards Paisley Gilmour Street is expected until the end of the day - although as always, the advice is to check your train on ScotRail’s Journeycheck website.

Replacement buses will be in place between Paisley and Gourock/Wemyss Bay throughout.

The disruption follows weather warnings from the Met Office, in place today and throughout the weekend, for heavy rain and thunderstorms.
