Party City back in the USA: Iconic retailer is making a comeback after closing all 700 of its stores

Party City is now in over 700 Staples stores across the U.S. - (Staples)

The party is back on for Party City — and this time, it’s bringing the celebration to a new venue.

Just over a year after the retailer shuttered all its stores following two bankruptcy filings, Party City is making a comeback, popping up in more than 700 Staples locations across the U.S., with more locations planned by the end of the year.

Instead of reopening standalone shops, Party City has set up shop within Staples stores, creating what the brands described as a one-stop party hub. Available now in locations across many states, customers can find everything from helium-filled balloons and decorations to tableware, party favors, gift bags and costume accessories, all alongside Staples’ same-day printing services.

“For as long as we can all remember, Party City has been the trusted go-to for balloons and party goods, known for quality, creativity and celebrations,” Joel Weinshanker, CEO of Ad Populum, owner of Party City, said in a statment. “As we take the new Party City to more places than ever before, finding the right partners is essential. Staples stood out immediately, not only for its national footprint, but for its strong connection to the communities we have both been part of for years. It felt like a natural fit from the start. Together, we’re making it easier for our many millions of combined loyal customers to celebrate and party with confidence at their local Party City, now at Staples.”

In the coming weeks, customers will be able to schedule balloon pickups in advance through Staples’ website and app, the companies said in a news release. Party City products will also be sold on Staples’ website, in addition to Party City’s own site.

Party City items will also be available on Staples' website (Staples)

To launch the partnership, the companies are rolling out a series of limited-time deals, including buy-two-get-one-free foil balloons, discounted party supplies and special pricing on inflated balloon bouquets. There are also lower starting prices on latex balloons and other essentials, helping customers put together a full celebration without overspending.

Staples is also offering 40 percent off personalized items like cards, invitations, photo gifts, banners and yard signs through its print services. Many of the deals are available both in-store and online, with some requiring app coupons or in-store pickup.

Founded in East Hanover, New Jersey, in 1986, Party City announced it would wind down operations on December 20, 2024, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in less than two years. Corporate employees were told that day would be their last, while the actual stores closed gradually over the next few months, with most closed by February 2025.
