Parton charity gun dog trial attracts 25 competitors and raises £470

Glorious weather conditions helped Diabetes Scotland raise around £470 from a charity gun dog trial at Parton on Saturday.

Some 25 competitors travelled from as far as Stirling and over the Border to take part in the event.

Barwhillanty Estate provided the ground and staff support at no cost for the day.

Crossmichael's Nativity fundraising tours proved very popular over the Easter weekend  

Gamekeeper David Rankin said: “This was the first time we have ever done this.

“The feedback we received was very positive and we are hoping to do a similar charity event every year.”

Mr Rankin, who is originally from Hamilton and is resident on the estate, said: “The weather could not have been better.

“People were in their deck chairs sitting beside their cars.

“They were just loving it.”

Winners: Open retriever champion, Kevin Saunderson; puppy retriever, Martin Whiteford; novice retriever, John Hynd; open spaniel champion, Julie Syme; puppy spaniel, Kenny McMillan; novice spaniel, Gordon Thompson.

The event organiser was Barry Lamb.
