Partick Thistle land Connor McAvoy on loan as Ian McCall snaps up Fulham man on Deadline Day deal

Partick Thistle have added to their defensive ranks on Deadline Day with the capture of Connor McAvoy on loan from Fulham.

The 20-year-old, who can play at centre-half or right-back, has penned a deal until the end of the season as he bolsters Ian McCall's options at the back ahead of a crucial period in their season. The Jags have an eye on fighting it out for promotion at the end of the season and currently trail leaders Queen's Park by seven points but are in the play-off positions.

The new recruit has been part of the academy system at the English Premier League outfit since he was eight and has been a regular feature in the Cottagers' Premier League 2 side. He's also experienced time out on loan with a previous stint at Wealdstone in the National League.

He's a Scotland Under-21 international and has also played for his country at all levels between 17s and 19s before stepping up with three caps so far for Scot Gemmill's side. Speaking about his new signing, Thistle boss McCall said: “I’m very pleased to add Connor to our squad for the reminder of the season. He has a lot of good qualities in a central defender to go far in his career and I know he is very highly thought of at Fulham.

"Connor has already been capped by Scotland at Under-21 level and has a lot to learn but I’m sure he will prove to be a real asset for us for the rest of the season.

“Connor had a number of other options to go on loan, including to Premiership clubs, so for him to choose to come to Firhill is a boost to everyone at the club.

"He’s come to play and get game time in an incredibly competitive division and I’m really looking forward to working with him over the next few months.”

Connor will wear the number 18 shirt during his time at Firhill.
