Parking strife hits UK streets

A GROWING number of multi-car households is fuelling parking wars on our streets, according to research.

With 40 per cent of British families having two or more cars to park, used-car online marketplace heycar found one in four motorists admitted rowing with neighbours.

Young adults living with parents for longer is thought to be a major factor, as it means there are more cars than ever in one household all fighting for parking spaces close to the front door.

Official figures show 3.4million 20 to 34-year-olds are still living with their parents and heycar research revealed one in four state a multi-generational home as the reason for having more than one vehicle. And 41 per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds admit they row with neighbours over parking.

Given the scale of the problem, it’s perhaps not surprising that 70 per cent of Brits say they get stressed over parking and 60 per cent get angry over neighbours’ inconsiderate parking.

Heycar boss Mat Moakes said: “With more people than ever having to go back to their parents’ homes after uni or while they save for their own house, there is a clear correlation with the rise in parking feuds we’re seeing.”
