Paris Saint-Germain's January move for Manuel Lanzini rejected with West Ham man keen to leave

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini was subject of a late transfer enquiry from Paris Saint-Germain in January, a move the 28-year-old was keen to explore.

As the winter transfer window drew to a close West Ham were approached by PSG in regard to a move to Mauricio Pochettino's side in the French capital.

Despite the arrival of Jesse Lingard to the club boss David Moyes did not want to further deplete his squad after the departures of Robert Snodgrass and Sebastien Haller. With no time to replace the Argentine PSG's interests were rebuked by the Hammers according to Football Insider.

Gareth Southgate pleased with Jesse Lingard return

Lanzini has been a fringe player for much of the season at West Ham and it is understood the Argentinian international is open to a move away from the club this summer.

After only three league starts and ten appearances from the substitutes bench, it is clear that Moyes does not see Lanzini as a first choice pick and a move away from the club could sort all parties.

Lanzini's current deal at the club runs until 2023 meaning a transfer this summer would be West Ham's best chance of cashing in. However, with the transfer market, skewed due to finance issues related to coronavirus, how much the Hammers would receive for a 28-year-old deemed surplus to requirements remains to be seen.

A figure in the region of £10m has been mooted and this would mean the Hammers recoup the majority of the reported £10.8m they paid for Lanzini's services in 2016 from UAE team Al-Jazira.

Lanzini has scored just one league goal this season and even if he failed to add ot that tally Hammers fans would have extremely fond memeories of the attacking-midfielder.

His lone goal this season came in the dying second of West Ham's clash with Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October. The Hammers had been 3-0 after just 16 minutes but with a Fabien Balbuena 82nd minutes goal and a Davinson Sanchez own goal just three minutes later Moyes' men were on the charge.

Lanzini had been substituted on in the 77th minute and produced one of the most remarkable strikes seen by a West Ham player in recent years.

With 94 minutes on the clock, a half-cleared Hammers corner fell to Lanzini and the Argentine produced a sublime volley that dipped over the forlorn Hugo Lloris and into the history books.
