Paris police open fire as car rams into Les Invalides monument

Paris police say officers opened fire on a car that rammed the entry at France's Les Invalides monument, stopping the vehicle, before arresting the driver.

A gendarmerie officer reportedly fired around 10 shots when the driver refused to stop at the main entry point on Rue Grenelle.

Police say no one was injured when the car plowed through the entrance at the golden-domed monument, and the incident is under investigation. A motive is currently unclear, though early reports suggested the man was 'incoherent'.

A bomb squad truck was on site.

French President Francois Hollande paid homage on 27 November at the Invalides to the victims of the attacks in Paris last month.

130 people died in the French capital in a series of attacks on 13 November. 89 were killed in a massacre at the Bataclan theatre during a performance by American rock group Eagles of Death Metal. The rest were killed in co-ordinated shootings and suicide bombings at restuarants and cafés, as well as in another explosion near the Stade de France. The Islamist terror group Isis (also known as Islamic State) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The monument, the Hotel des Invalides, sits in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, and contains teh Army Museum and a military necropolis.
