Paris Olympics: India secure team quotas in archery

NEW DELHI: Based on the revised world rankings released on Monday, India was granted quotas for both the men's and women's archery teams at the next Olympics in Paris.

To guarantee its team quotas, India finished first in both the men's and women's categories among the non-qualified countries, according to PTI.

India will thereby be qualified to participate in the men's and women's team, individual, and mixed medal events at the Paris Olympics.

China and India qualified for the men's division, while Indonesia was the second country to guarantee the Olympic quota for the women's division.

Twelve teams will compete in each division of the team events, and five teams will participate in the mixed competitions.

Team quotas are awarded to the top two countries following the three-leg Olympic qualifiers for the first time.

During the World Archery Championships in Berlin last year, the first Olympic qualifier took place. In the men's division, South Korea, Turkey, and Japan qualified, while Germany and Mexico qualified in the women's division.

There was a continental qualification in the second leg.

The men's and women's team quotas from the Asian leg went to Kazakhstan and South Korea, respectively, while the Pan-American teams qualified Colombia and the United States.

Italy's men and the Netherlands' women received quotas from the European leg.

The final Olympic Qualifier took place in Antalya.

China, Malaysia, Great Britain, and Chinese Taipei won quotas from the Final Qualifier for the women's division, while Mexico, Chinese Taipei, and Great Britain won quotas in the men's division.

Tarun, Deepika hit a four

Tarundeep Rai, a veteran of the Army who is forty years old, will compete in his fourth Olympics after making his debut in 2004 in Athens.

The same is true for Deepika Kumari, the former world number one, who will compete in her fourth straight Olympics after competing in her first Games in London 2012.

Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Dhiraj Bommadevara will be competing in their first Olympics, while Pravin Jadhav will be competing in his second straight Games following Tokyo.

India squad:

Men: Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Pravin Jadhav
