Parents blast Tesco for 'crass stupidity' over Christmas advert that they say encourages children to misbehave

Parents have blasted Tesco for 'crass stupidity' over their Christmas advert that they say encourages children to misbehave.

The festive advert tells viewers that after 2020, Santa has no naughty list.

But some parents are furious at the supermarket because they say it gives children a license to misbehave.

The advert shows a small girl in a Tesco store saying "I gave my sister a terrible haircut, what If I'm on the naughty list?"

To which a voice over replies: "Relax, after this year, there is no naughty list"

But the marketing strategy has left parents scratching their heads as to why the supermarket giants thought banishing the naughty list was a good idea.

One parent said: "Sorry but who put @Tesco in charge of a naughty list? Hate this Christmas advert... yes children do what you want “cut your sisters hair” and you won’t get in trouble for it... great message!!"

Another fumed: "Can I thank the ill thought out crass stupidity of @Tesco - There is no naughty list? Really?

"Wanna come and sort out unruly kids who now don’t have any reason to behave? Who are you to announce that?

"Next you’ll be telling them there’s no Fr Christmas. Go on, I dare you! Idiots!"

Another said: "So Tesco your condoning being naughty with no consequences. Parents are gona love you taking that little secret control switch away."

Another mum moaned because the ad would be on before 9pm, he kids would see it and she would have nothing to ;threaten' them with.

She said: "This as better not be on pre watershed or the nation will have nothing to threaten its children with in run up to Christmas."

But not everyone hated the idea. One woman said: "Definitely no naughty list for all your fantastic staff who have packed and delivered our shopping to is as we continue to shield thank you your all amazing my comes from the Greenock store."

Another added: "Best Christmas ad so far! with a much needed cheerful tone & an uplifting non-christmassy track."

"I'm shocked that the best Christmas advert so far this year comes from Tesco," added another.

Another said the whole concept of a 'naughty list' was wrong.

She said: "Children shouldn't be told Santa won't come if they're bad. My daughter's an infant school teacher, & says it's heartbreaking how many children think they've done something wrong because Santa didn't bring them a present.

"This year even more parents won't be able to afford gifts."

But Tesco hit back saying: “Children, just like the rest of us, haven’t had the easiest of years. They’ve had to cope with their parents playing teacher, missed visits from the tooth fairy and been subjected to dodgy home haircuts.

"Having put up with all of this and more, we think an amazing Christmas filled with the very best treats is well deserved.

"That’s why we think this year at Tesco there is no naughty list!"
