Sharon Choi, the Korean-American filmmaker who charmed audiences by translating Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s speeches during Sunday’s Oscar’s ceremony, has written a film.
Talking after the ceremony, in which his film sensationally won Best Picture, Bong said: “You already know [Sharon Choi’s] a filmmaker. And she studied film in the university, yeah, so I’m so curious about her script.”
“Actually, she’s writing some feature-length script – I’m so curious about it.”
Choi, 25, was next to Bong throughout the evening, as he collected awards for Best Director, Best International Film and Best Original Screenplay.
The Wrap reporter Steve Pond reported on Twitter that Choi said: “she wants to start making a movie ... about awards season.”
Choi has served as the interpretor for the Snowpiercer director throughout awards season, and the film’s Oscar night success has pushed her further into the spotlight.
2020’s Oscars broke several records for the Academy. It was the first time a non-English language feature has won Best Picture, and Parasite boasts the first ever Oscar win for a South Korean film.
