The Carolina Panthers just brought in an old friend.
Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the team worked out linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr. on Monday. The 28-year-old defender played four seasons in Charlotte, a run that ended after the 2021 campaign.
That tenure for Carter Jr. began as a fifth-round pick in 2018. The Fort Washington, Md. native and University of Maryland product, who was college teammates with future Panthers teammate DJ Moore, was drafted with the 161st overall selection.
Carter Jr. appeared in 65 games with 30 starts for Carolina. He recorded 178 combined tackles (eight for a loss), two fumble recoveries, two passes defensed and half a sack.
The Panthers watched Carter Jr. walk in free agency in the spring of 2022. He would then land with the Kansas City Chiefs later that summer and go on to play in seven regular-season games for the Cleveland Browns.
Given the expected signing of Blake Martinez, however, there may not be a reunion on the horizon.
