Panthers reportedly ‘sniffing around’ on Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy

Would Sean Payton be willing to help an old NFC South foe out?

That could be the case according to KOA Colorado’s Benjamin Allbright, who noted that the Carolina Panthers are interested in Denver Broncos wideout Jerry Jeudy.

“Carolina—I mean, obviously, Ejiro Evero knows Jerry Jeudy, knows these receivers,” Allbright said on Wednesday’s episode of Let’s Ride with Chris Harris Jr. and Patrick Chiotti. “He’s a DC down there in Carolina, and I do believe that Carolina is looking for a playmaker receiver. ‘Cause [Adam] Thielen’s shown up and been a possession guy, but they really need that other playmaker over there and I think Jerry would do a good job at that. I think Jerry’s shown that he can play all three—he can play out of the slot, he can play the X, he can play the Z. And I think in that system with Frank Reich, he’d be a good fit.

“So, we’ll see. I think the Broncos probably askin’ like a two and a four, they wind up takin’ a three, ya know, kind of thing. But we’ll see. We’ll see if that gets done. But there are teams sniffin’ around and Carolina is sniffin’ around on Jerry Jeudy.”

Whispers of the Panthers’ interest in acquiring a receiver emerged over the past week, beginning with a report on Sunday from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. Those whispers got a bit louder on Tuesday, when fellow insider Jordan Schultz said that general manager Scott Fitterer has been on the phone “every single day” in pursuit of a “top-tier” pass catcher.

Jeudy, a 2020 first-round pick out of the University of Alabama, may be closing up shop in Denver soon. The 24-year-old, while undeniably talented, has yet to really stick on with the Broncos—having totaled just 2,453 receiving yards and nine touchdowns over 44 career games.
