Panthers release S Kenny Robinson Jr. from practice squad

If you don’t know why we use the term “initial” to describe this week’s 53-man rosters and practice squads, now you know.

Less than 24 hours after adding the final two players to their 16-man practice squad, the Carolina Panthers have released safety Kenny Robinson Jr. from the group. Darin Gantt of Panthers.com was first with the news.

Robinson’s pro career began in the XFL, as a member of the 2020 St. Louis Battlehawks. Not long after that one-year run concluded, he was drafted in the fifth round of that year’s NFL draft by the Panthers.

The University of West Virginia product would go on to play in 19 games for Carolina between two seasons. He amassed 18 combined tackles and scooped up a touchdown off a blocked punt in 2021—the first such score for the franchise since 1998.

Robinson gained a tiny bit of infamy this summer, having been kicked out of two joint practices with the New England Patriots on consecutive days.

His release now leaves the Panthers with 15 players on their current practice squad.
