Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey has not dropped a pass in a season and a half

Christian McCaffrey is the top pass-catching running back in the NFL right now and whoever is second-best isn’t close.

According to Pro Football Focus, McCaffrey has caught 155 straight catchable passes. The last time he dropped a ball was the final game of his rookie season in 2017.

That gives McCaffrey a drop-less streak of 23 consecutive games, nearly a season and a half.

In addition to never dropping passes, McCaffrey makes catches that no other running back and very few wide receivers can. The remarkable hands he showed on this catch against Houston is a fine example.

Paying running backs big extensions generally doesn’t work out well in the NFL. The Panthers may have a unicorn in McCaffrey, though.

They are guaranteed to pick up his fifth-year option, which will keep him in Carolina through at least the 2021 season. If McCaffrey is still healthy and producing at this level at that point, they shouldn’t hesitate to give him a lucrative long-term extension.
