Panthers K Joey Slye named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Panthers kicker Joey Slye has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Texans, which included a 55-yard field goal.

Slye is an undrafted rookie who might not have even made a team if not for Graham Gano’s leg injury this summer. However, after one month of the season, he looks like the best kicker in the league this year.

So far, Slye has only missed one field goal attempt – it was his first of the season and it came from over 50 yards out against the Rams. Since then, he’s connected on every kick, including multiple 50-yarders.

Heading into Week 5, Slye leads the NFL in scoring with 32 points.
