Panthers great Greg Olsen dishes on disrespect for the tight end position

The Carolina Panthers haven’t had a capable tight end since Greg Olsen’s foot injuries began back in 2017. While that’s definitely not the only factor in the team’s decline since then, not having any firepower to speak of at this position certainly hasn’t helped.

Tight ends can often be an overlooked and underrated part of the modern game, even though the teams playing in the Super Bowl these days all seem to have stars at this spot. Travis Kelce of the Chiefs and George Kittle of the 49ers are the top-two in the sport and they’re teaming up with Olsen over the next few days for an intitiative they’re calling Tight End University.

Olsen recently spoke on the Pardon My Take podcast about how tight ends are expected to do the job of offensive tackles and wide receivers while getting paid half as much.

We expect that TEU will function much like Von Miller’s pass-rushing summit. Zach Ertz, Eric Ebron, Darren Waller, Noah Fant, Jonnu Smith, Mark Andrews and Chris Manhertz are among the players participating.

Sadly, Tim Tebow did not merit an invite.
