Success in the NFL never happens in a vacuum, especially as far as running backs are concerned. While Christian McCaffrey is having an undeniably outstanding season, some of the credit has to go to his teammates up front. Example: this past week, McCaffrey got a huge hole to run through thanks to left guard Greg Van Roten.
Watch Van Roten pull and then set McCaffrey up for a 58-yard touchdown run with a man-sized block on No. 59.
For his efforts, Van Roten has been given the “Way to Play” award by the NFL for Week 9.
Van Roten spent the first several seasons of his NFL career with the Packers. He joined the Panthers in 2017 and became a starter last year. Left guards generally don’t get revenge games, but Sunday’s matchup is another chance to prove how much he’s grown since he came into the league.
