Pair arrested after man 'threatened with firearm' in Arboretum

Two men have been arrested after allegedly threatening a man with a gun.

A man was walking in Gregory Boulevard, Arboretum, with a woman and child when a car pulled up in front of them

It was reported that the driver of a a black VW Golf revved the engine before getting out of the vehicle and brandishing a gun at around 6.20pm on Sunday, February 6.

A passenger inside the vehicle is also said to have brandished a knife during the incident.

The man, woman and child were allowed to leave the scene and were unharmed.

Following enquiries, armed police visited an address in Winchester Street, Sherwood, at 8.30pm on the same evening and arrested two men, aged 40 and 45.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “When officers were made aware of this report, they were quick to establish the circumstances of what had happened.

“Thankfully, no-one was physically hurt and two suspects were quickly detained following enquiries into the incident.

“This had the potential to have devastating consequences and we are taking this extremely seriously. That said, this type of incident is rare and we believe that those involved are known to each other and that there was no wider risk to the public.

“Local officers continue to be in the area and we urge anyone with concerns to speak to them."

The two men were taken into custody for questioning.
