Paedophile surgeon Michael Shine set for early prison release and could walk free within weeks

Paedophile surgeon Michael Shine could walk free from prison as early as next month, the Irish Sunday Mirror has learned.

The serial predator was jailed for four years in 2019 for sexually assaulting seven boys over three decades.

Now the caged molester is preparing for his release from the Midlands Prison, much to the disgust and shock of his victims.

Patrick Cusack, who was abused by Shine at the age of 11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, said he was dreading the day the depraved monster gets out of jail.

The 60-year-old from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, added: “This will be three quarters of his sentence, three years, done.

“When someone is getting away with not serving a quarter of their sentence...

“His victims, including myself, who have had a life sentence are not getting remission. It does sicken you that they get remission. I never understood it. It sickens me to the pit of my stomach that he will now be allowed to walk out.”

Last October, it emerged compensation for some of Shine’s victims was now in doubt.

Mr Cusack said sick paedophiles like twisted Shine feel they have nothing to be forgiven for and remain a risk to society. He added: “These guys show no remorse because they don’t feel they have done anything wrong.

“That man, if he gets the opportunity, will still take the opportunity. I believe it’s his genetic make-up.

“I don’t believe these guys ever change.

“I believe it’s rubbish. I have studied these guys for years and looked at serial killers, serial rapists and once paedophiles abuse they abuse again and again.

“We were only toys in his [Shine] world, simple play things.

“They just move on to the next toy. They remember like you remember when we were young and had a special toy. This guy remembers every one of his.”

A spokesman for the Irish Prison Service said: “The Irish Prison Service does not comment on individual prisoner cases.”
