Padraig Harrington in contention for maiden senior major title

Padraig Harrington is firmly in contention for his first senior major championship after a second round 66 in the Regions Tradition.

The 50-year-old Dubliner is just two shots behind leader Steve Stricker who followed his opening round 65 with a 68 to sit at 11-under-par.

Harrington is one of the longest hitters on the tour, and he made great use of length to birdie all five of the par fives on Friday.

Finishing with four birdies in his last six holes, the two-time Open Championship winner is in a great position to challenge for one of five major championships in senior golf.

He is tied for second place at nine-under-par with Scot McCarron, while Ernie Els and Miguel Angel Jimenez are lurking in behind at eight-under and seven-under respectively.

Darren Clarke couldn't produce the low round he needed to get in contention. The 53-year-old is on one-under-par and in a tie for 38th place.

Elsewhere, on the PGA Tour Seamus Power is in the mix at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship.

The Waterford man has continued his fine recent form, shooting a 67 to lie on 11-under par and only four shots behind joint-leaders Ryan Palmer, David Skinns and Sebastian Munoz at halfway stage.
