Packers release punter Drew Kaser from roster

For the second time in three seasons, the Green Bay Packers signed Drew Kaser as a backup but ended up not needing the veteran punter.

And just like 2018, Kaser’s stay on the roster didn’t last long.

The Packers released Kaser on Tuesday, just two days after signing him as an emergency option in case punter JK Scott, who was questionable due to a personal matter, couldn’t play against the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2018, the Packers signed Kaser before a November game against the New England Patriots. Scott ended up playing, and the Packers released him two days later.

Kaser was inactive for Sunday’s loss to the Colts. Scott punted three times, averaging 39.0 yards per punt.

Kaser, a draft pick of the Chargers organization, hasn’t punted in a regular-season game since 2018.

The Packers now have an open roster spot. Running back A.J. Dillon and linebacker Krys Barnes could come off the COVID-19 reserve list at some point this week.
