Packers officially announce trade for LB B.J. Goodson

The Green Bay Packers officially announced a trade with the New York Giants for fourth-year linebacker B.J. Goodson on Tuesday, completing a deal that was first reported on Monday.

A 2016 fourth-round pick of the Giants, Goodson played in 37 games and made 20 starts over three seasons in New York. In Green Bay, he’ll add necessary depth to arguably the thinnest position on the roster.

The Packers released second-year linebacker James Crawford on Monday to make room for Goodson on the 53-man roster.

Despite the completion of the trade, Goodson wasn’t seen at practice during the portion open to the media on Tuesday. It’s unlikely he’ll be ready to play any kind of role against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night in the season opener.

Goodson will wear No. 93, the same number he wore with the Giants. It was last worn by Reggie Gilbert, who was traded to the Tennessee Titans.
