Packers injury report: Sternberger out, Savage questionable vs. Lions

The Green Bay Packers ruled out two players and listed three as questionable for Sunday’s trip to Detroit to play the Lions.

Tight end Jace Sternberger (concussion) and rookie guard Simon Stepaniak (knee) are out, while safety Darnell Savage (groin), receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (knee/concussion) and receiver Malik Taylor (hamstring) are questionable to play.

Savage’s injury is a new one. He wasn’t listed on the injury report on Wednesday or Thursday but was added on Friday. The second-year safety was officially limited during practice Friday.

The injury is one to monitor, especially with safety Raven Greene now on injured reserve. Savage has three interceptions in his last two games.

Sternberger didn’t practice all week after suffering a concussion against the Philadelphia Eagles. Stepaniak, who tore his ACL during his final collegiate season last December, just came off the non-football injury list this week.

The Packers are shorthanded at tight end and will likely need to activate one from the practice squad, possibly rookie Dominique Dafney.

Taylor injured his hamstring at some point during practice this week. He was a non-participant at Friday’s practice, suggesting he might be closer to doubtful for Sunday. The depth at receiver is also a little challenged, meaning a practice squad elevation could be coming at the position on Saturday. The Packers have three receivers on the practice squad, including veteran Seth Roberts.

Ten players don’t have injury designations and will play Sunday, including cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Kevin King and edge rusher Za’Darius Smith.

The Lions ruled out receiver Kenny Golladay, cornerback Jeff Okudah and offensive lineman Tyrell Crosby. Rookie running back D’Andre Swift is among six players listed as questionable by the Lions.

Golladay, the Lions’ No. 1 receiver, will miss both games against the Packers this season.
